About the location:
Roopkund is a high altitude glacial lake located in the state of Uttarakhand, India. This lake is locally known as mystery and skeletons lake. It gained popularity in the 1940’s when a Nanda Devi game reserve ranger found the skeletons. Roopkund lies in the lap of the Trishul massif and is uninhabited.
The lake only has a depth of two meters and has garnered its popularity from the fact that all the skeletal remains are clearly visible at the bottom of the lake when the snow melts. It is placed amidst high perched, snow-clad mountains of the mighty Himalayas and is one of the most popular trekking destinations in India.
Pick up will be available at 06:30 am from the parking lot of Kathgodham railway station.
All the guests will stay at a beautiful guest house.
A visit to one of the local markets is sure to erase the memories of the long drive of 210 km (10 hrs drive).

Day 2 :- Lohargunj to Didna Village
Trek distance - 6.5 km
Altitude - 7,662 to 8,045 ft
Reach Didna before lunch.
Accommodation will be provided in a beautiful village home-stay.
There are no local markets in this region.

There is a gradual descent of approx 4.5 kms till Ruan Bagad bridge. Guests could refill their water bottles at Ruan Bagad bridge from the pristine Neel Ganga River. From there on there will be around 2 hours (2kms) of a steep ascent to Didna village from the Ruan Bagad bridge.
Day 3 :- Didna Village to Ali Bugyal
Trek distance - 10.5 km
Altitude - 8,045 to 11,320 ft
Guests will stay in tents for a few days from this leg of the trek.
Carrying both ample amount of water and ORS is advisable due to the rough terrain.
Reach Ali Bugyal by late noon

Tolpani is the last point for drinking water
The first half of the trek has some steep ascent as it is through oak and rhododendron forest. While the second half of the trek has a gradual descent as it is through big alpine meadows.
Day 4 :- Ali Bugyal to Patar Nachauni via Bedni Bugyal and Ghora Lotani
Trek distance - 7 km
Altitude - 11,320 to 12,818 ft
This is supposed to be the easiest day of the trek. The guests will stay in tents for a few days from hereon.
Reach Patar Nachauni before lunch
There will be a gradual descent of 2 kms from Ali Bugyal to Bedni Bugyal. Once in Bedni Bugyal there will be a gradual descent of 4 kms from to Ghora Lotani. From Ghora Lotani there will be a gradual descent of 1 kms from to Patar Nachauni.
The guests can spend some time at Ghora Lotani as it is a perfect place to get acclimatised to the climatic conditions of the region. Dressing in warm attire is advised as this is the place where most of the trekkers get AMS(Acute Mountain Sickness).
Day 5 :- Patar Nachauni to Bhagwabasa via Kalu Vinayak
Trek distance - 4 kms
Altitude - 12,818 to 14,117 ft
Guests will continue to stay in tents as these areas are uninhabited.
Reach camp site by lunch.
The first 1 kms from Patar Nachauni to Kalu Vinayak Temple has a gradual descent and the other 1.5 kms has steep ascent. From the Kalu Vinayak temple, there will again be a gradual descent of 1.5 kms to Bhagwabasa.
While this trail is snowy in the months of may and june and it becomes rocky and clear in the months of sep and oct.
Day 6 :- Bhagwabasa to Roopkund to Patar Nachauni
Trek distance - 10 kms
Altitude - 14,117 to 15755 ft
Guests will stay in tents for one last day on the 6th day.
The trek will start by 4:00 am and the climb to Roopkund is only 3 kms but this will the most challenging day of the trek. Because of how challenging this day could get, guests are advised to carry energy bars, water and ORS to keep themselves hydrated and full.
Post the tiring climb breakfast will be at the top of Roopkund.
Reach Bhagwabasa back by lunch time and reach Patar Nachauni camp by evening.
As there is no snow in the months of Aug, Sep, Oct the skeletons are clearly visible. Whereas, in the months of May and Jun the skeletons aren’t visible as the lake is covered in snow.
Day 7 :- Patar Nachauni to Lohajung via Bedni and Wan
Trek distance - 15 km
Altitude - 12,818 to 7,662 ft
Route :- Patar Nachauni - Ghora Lotani - Bedni Bugyal - Doliya Dhar - Ghaeroli Patal - Neel Ganga - Ranka Dhar - Wan Village - drive to Lohajung.
Guests will stay in a guest house on this day.
Guests will traverse to Ghora Lotani from Patar Nachauni which has a km of gradual ascent and from Ghora Lotani they will trek to Bedni Bugyal which has 4 kms of gradual descent. Post which they will walk to Doliya Dhar and from there they will experience a steep descent of 3 kms on their way to Ghaeroli Patal. Neel Ganga is a mere 4 kms away but because of the steep descent it might seem a little longer.Reahing Ranka Dhar from Neel Ganga will not take long as it is a 1 kms trek with moderate ascent. From Ranka Dhar everyone will trek down to Wan Village Road head and from there, a 45 minute drive will take the guests to Loharjung.
Day 8 :- Loharjung to Kathgodam
A long 10 hrs drive of 210 kms will take place on this day, but because of the scenic nature of the place guests are bound to feel energised. On the way to Kathgodam at Kausani you can buy herbal tea and some souvenirs for your friends and family.
Reach Kathgodam by 6:00 pm.

Higher camps are covered with snow 7. Natural sources of drinking water are easily available 8. Suitable for those who want to experience snow and would like the trek to be a little difficult
Autumn Treks (September, October, November) 1. Not as windy 2. Extremely cold 3. Mostly clear weather is experienced 4. Human skeletons are clearly visible 5. There wont be any snow at the camp sites 6. Roopkund lake is clearly visible 7. Natural sources of drinking water are limited 8. Best for those who want to experience some greenery and want to go on a moderate level of trek
